Is surfing the net a bad hobby?

I read in a Christian booklet for church that the internet is a waste of time. That made me feel guilty because I tend to do that a lot. I don't fel entirely comfortable doing anything else with my spare time. I do do what I need to do with my life and I spend some time with family, but I also use the net to find out other ways to occupy my free time this summer. I also LOVE to learn new things. Is this bad?
